Muhlenberg K-Kids Club Chartered!!

On June 4, 2003 history was made in the City of Allentown. The first K-Kids Club was chartered, at Muhlenberg Elementary School. A wonderful ceremony was held in the school cafeteria. Participating in the event were Division 18 Lt. Governor Mel Leaver, Pennsylvania District K-Kids coordinator Darlene Anderson, Ron Lewis, President of the Kiwanis Club of Allentown, club K-Kids Advisor Terry DiRienzo, and Past President Tom Harp. From Muhlenberg School was Principal Phil Turton and Katie Fanger, who is faculty advisor for the club.

After a Pledge of Allegiance, invocation was offered by K-Kids member Breanna Kramer. The club then recited their motto, pledge, and objects. After comments by invited guests, the charter was presented to the officers of the club, President Claire Carbonetto, Vice-President Kylie Biliger, Secretary Sabine DaSilva, and Treasurer Emily Hartman. Then, club advisors, officers, and members received official K-Kids pins. Excitement began to build as the club banner was unfurled. The audience reacted with wonder and pride to see the banner in full display!

Many of the 19 charter members of the Muhlenberg K-Kids club were present. After pizza, cake and cookies, club members described some of the projects they were involved with in their first year. Those included a "Hat Day" that raised $325 for the Leukemia Society, a food drive that benefited the Salvation Army Hospitality House, a bake sale that netted $75 for the Humane Society, and school and playground cleanups. Another achievement was raising over $300 in pennies that were donated to the "Make a Wish Foundation". This was an amazing year for a brand new club!  Everyone involved, the kids, parents, and advisors deserve a big "way to go" for these acts of community service.

Muhlenberg Elementary School has developed a reputation for an excellent faculty, student body, and parent involvement. It was fitting that Muhlenberg became the first of what we hope are many K-Kids Clubs in the Allentown School District.
